I’m Raia!
That’s pronounced rye-yuh in case you were wondering. I live in the south with my wonderful husband, six crazy kids, a bunch of backyard chickens, and a gazillion mosquitoes. And this is my blog where I post all my recipes that pass the inspection of said kids and husband.
A Little About My Recipes
All my recipes are free of gluten, because I am. Most of them are free from refined sweeteners, because sugar hates me. Most are also free from dairy, ’cause I’m dairy (all kinds) intolerant, and eggs, because I was also suuuper sensitive to them for years before my amazing encounter with the GAPS Diet (you can read about that here). Half my recipes are breakfast, because I firmly believe that’s the best meal of the day. The other half contain chocolate in some way, because chocolate is the best thing a person can eat.
(My Buttermilk Chocolate Cake, Buttered Chai Hot Chocolate, and Honey-Sweetened Chocolate Ice Cream pictured.)
All my recipes are as healthy as I can get them while staying within my self-employed, web-designer hubby’s budget. They’re usually as simple as possible too because, hey, I’ve got six kids and not a lot of time to spend in the kitchen!
Me + gluten ≠ true love.
I found out gluten hated my guts (literally) after the birth of my oldest son. My midwife called it “trauma induced gluten intolerance”. I later found out that gluten hates my family, on my dad’s side. My grandma, aunt, and dad are all gluten-intolerant. And even more recently, I found out I have celiac. I can’t even smell gluten without feeling sick. 🙁
A Little About Me
Don’t let the food blog fool you, I really don’t like to cook. I do, however, like to eat, and so I cook. (Thankfully, I actually do like to bake, which works out well with eating also.) In my spare time (what?!) like to do artsy-fartsy things like sew, paint, play musical instruments, and crochet. I also really enjoy photography, but I’m not so good at it. C’est la vie. I like to read, but I never have the time. Again with the French phrase.
My husband is my best friend, I’d rather spend time with him than do pretty much anything. Oooh, and when I grow up I want to be a homesteader with a cow, bees, and a huge garden. As it is, right now I live in the ‘burbs of a nice big southern city where the only homesteadish thing I can do is have chickens. And I can’t garden. I literally kill everything green.
As I already mentioned, we’ve got six kids. A flower-child tom-boy, a nerdy girly-girl, a boy (100% all boy), a princess, a 3 year old monster daughter (nuff said there), and a chunky baby boy whose personality is still to be determined. They were all born at home, because I’m petrified of hospitals. I homeschool them. They are very well socialized, thankyouverymuch.
(Four-year olds make the best photo props. Dark Chocolate Banana Coconut Cookies pictured with said prop.)
The most interesting thing I’ve ever eaten was horse… on a plane… somewhere over Siberia. (I also lived in Russia yeeears ago when my oldests were little, thus the name Raia.)
The most import thing about me? I firmly believe Jesus is the Messiah. Coming to this realization was the most amazing thing that ever happened to me.
