If you’ve looked around my site at all, you’ll know that dessert is my favorite meal. And brownies are my favorite dessert. I have loads of brownie recipes, and I love them all! These slightly fudgy, dark chocolate coconut flour brownies are my latest favorite recipe. And they are dark, so don’t go into this recipe thinking they’re gonna taste like they have a cup of sugar in them!

Liquids. The only liquids in these dark chocolate coconut flour brownies are applesauce and oil. If you can’t do applesauce, I have subbed pumpkin puree and that works very well. Bananas may work too, if you like them.

For the oil, you can use whatever kind you want. I like using avocado oil because it doesn’t have a flavor. Coconut oil works too, just make sure it’s not hot after melting it, otherwise it will cook the eggs before you bake the brownies and that will mess up their consistency!

Eggs. Due to the coconut flour in these brownies, eggs are kinda necessary. I have not yet come up with a good egg-free coconut flour brownie recipe. Sorry. If that’s what you need I’d suggest you keep looking.

Flour. The only flour you need in this recipe is coconut flour! It’s a nice simple recipe in that way. If you want to make subs, maybe just my almond flour brownies, or cassava flour brownies instead.

Sweetener. I use a little bit of both honey and coconut sugar in these dark chocolate coconut flour brownies. I think the mixture makes them perfect, but if you want to you can just use one or the other. The brownies will still be yummy, but the texture will change a little. Also, please note that the amount of sweetener is low for brownies. That’s because these are dark chocolate brownies. They are not super sweet. If you’re not so much a dark chocolate person, you can add a little sweetener or make my other coconut flour brownie recipe.

Ingredients

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 and grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.

In a medium-large bowl, whisk together applesauce, oil, egg, vanilla, honey, and sugar.

Dump remaining ingredients on top of mixture and whisk quickly to combine.

Do not let batter rest, the coconut flour will soak up all the liquid and you will have a very dry brownie!

Right away, pour batter into prepared pan and smooth out a little.

Bake at 350 for 20 minutes or until center doesn’t collapse when you touch it lightly.
