If you love matcha and chocolate and ice cream, then you’re gonna love this! Only 4 ingredients are needed for this delicious and healthy chocolate matcha ice cream.

Whether it’s currently summer or not, it’s always ice cream season in my house. It’s one of our favorite treats! Unfortunately, it’s really hard to find quality ice cream that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg (especially when you need enough for 8 people!). So I’ve been enjoying coming up with new and delicious ice cream flavors that my family can enjoy. This chocolate matcha ice cream is one of our latest favorites! It combines matcha – one of our favorite fancy drinks – with chocolate ice cream. And it probably goes without saying that chocolate ice cream is my favorite flavor…
I hope you get to enjoy this treat as much as my family and I do!

Chocolate Matcha Ice Cream
Milk. I usually use fresh goats milk for my homemade ice creams. But a full fat coconut milk works just as well! There are quite a few different coconut milk brands out there, and while you could technically use whichever one you want recommend using an organic brand that doesn’t have a lot of added ingredients. My favorite coconut milk for ice cream making is Wild Harvest organic coconut milk. Unfortunately it is a little hard to find. Native Forest classic coconut milk is good, too. Using a coconut milk with guar com will help the ice cream hold together better, but a lot of people don’t tolerate gums well, so it’s totally ok to use a gum-free coconut milk.
Matcha. One of the best sources of antioxidants there is, matcha is packed with chlorophyll and vitamins A and C. And while it does have caffeine, matcha gives a controlled caffeine release, as opposed to the quick spike and drop of coffee. Matcha also gives a calming, relaxing effect due to the amino acid L-Theanine it contains.

Cocoa. As with any chocolate treat, a good quality cocoa powder is always a must! Azure Standard’s organic, fair-trade cocoa powder is definitely my favorite, but I’ve been known to use regular ol’ grocery store cocoa powder when I’m in a pinch, too.
Sweetener. Honey is the perfect sweetener for this chocolate matcha ice cream! Of course, I think it the perfect sweetener for pretty much anything else, too. You could also try maple syrup, if you want, or a low-carb sweetener like liquid stevia. I haven’t tried either of these, though, so I can’t say how they would do, for sure.
