All about the melon.
Pretty much as soon as the heat starts picking up my kids start asking for one thing: watermelon. Even though we live in the south where it’s practically summer year round, they’re always a little extra excited for watermelon season!
While watermelon isn’t as packed with nutrition as other fruits like berries or avocados, it’s still got a lot of goodness in it! Watermelon contains the potent antioxidant lycopene, which is a carotenoids that has been found to help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress. It’s also packed with vitamins A & C, and contains good amounts of potassium and magnesium, too!
Of course, one of the things that makes watermelon a super good summertime snack is its water content. Watermelons are about 91 percent water, which helps keep you hydrated during the heat and helps with detoxification, bloating, and swelling. The vitamin A content in watermelon also helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays! Another handy reason to eat watermelon during the summer!
