These easy, paleo spicy Italian roasted Brussels sprouts are a crowd pleasure and sure to become a favorite!
An unlikely favorite.
It might sound odd, but Brussels sprouts are one of my favorite veggies. If you’d asked me growing up I wouldn’t have said that. Reason being I never tried them! I’m not really sure why, but I never ate a Brussels sprout until after I was married and had four little kids.
But once I tried them I couldn’t deny the fact that they were delicious. But like most veggies, Brussels sprouts have more than just crunch and taste in their favor. They’re full of nutritious benefits, too!
Nutritious tiny cabbages.
Brussels sprouts are little cabbage-like veggies that are part of the cruciferous family of plants. So they’re related to things like broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and cabbage. They have very few calories, but tons of vitamins!
These little veggies are packed with vitamins K, A, and C, and are also full of folate, potassium, magnesium, and phosphorus. Brussels sprouts also contain antioxidants and phytochemicals – as well as sulforophane, glucosinolates, and isothiocyanates – that are key in reducing the progression and risk of certain types of cancer.
Not bad for a little guy.
Spicy Italian Roasted Brussels Sprouts
Though my family loves my pan-fried Brussels sprouts with bacon and cranberries, our absolute favorite way to eat Brussels sprouts is roasted. Well, we pretty much love any veggie roasted! These little roasted Brussels sprouts are super easy to make and fun to dress up! We love them plain, but our most recent favorite flavor is spicy Italian! It’s simply a blend of Italian herbs and some red pepper flakes.
I didn’t put any measurements in the ingredient list because this is a “however you like it” kinda recipe. Like it hot? Add more red pepper. Like it more herby? Add more Italian seasoning. You get to chose! If you really wanna know, though, I usually put in about 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes, a tablespoon of Italian seasoning, and a light dusting of salts and pepper.
More delicious side dishes.
If you’re like me, and could make a whole meal out of side dishes, here are a few of my favorites. You’re welcome.
- Easy Sweet Potato Oven Fries
- Bacon Cheddar Jalapeno Cornbread
- Garlic Smashed Potatoes in the Instant Pot
- Quick & Simple Coleslaw
- Creamy Broccoli Salad
- Scalloped Zucchini & Crookneck Squash
