This delicious and easy-to-make sweet and salty chocolate bar with fruit and nuts is the perfect healthy treat for chocolate lovers! It’s naturally gluten-free, and also dairy and refined sugar free with a paleo option.
Everything’s better with chocolate.
There’s not much that I don’t like…. if it’s covered in chocolate. Take things I won’t eat normally, give them a hiding place in chocolate, and I can devour them.
Like avocados. They’re much better in chocolate things than they are plain.
Or raisins and peanuts. I can handle a few of them by themselves, but covering them in chocolate makes them sooooo delicious.
Now, admittedly, I don’t need things to cover in chocolate to enjoy chocolate. I’m fine leaving out the things I’m covering and just eating the chocolate. But unfortunately, most chocolate doesn’t like me.
ISO: allergy-friendly chocolate.
Dairy… sugar… soy… these are things that most chocolate has in it. And even if it’s organic, I still can’t handle it. So a couple months ago I took it upon myself to make my own chocolate that was safe for me to enjoy and loved me back.
No dairy, no soy, no refined sugar.
Once I had a wonderful chocolate bar down pat, I added a few toppings and came up with this amazingly stunning and delicious sweet & salty chocolate bar.
Sweet & salty chocolate bar with fruit & nuts.
The chocolate is dark, and the saltiness of the nuts and tartness/sweetness of the dried fruit is a delicious paring! And not only is it delicious, it’s highly customizable.
I like to use what I have on hand, which for these photos was black chia seeds, goji berries, raisins, and peanuts. I’ve used all sorts of combinations, though!
If you don’t feel like making your own chocolate and happen to have a dairy-free, soy-free, refined-sugar free chocolate bar on hand, feel free to use that. Just melt it down and proceed through the recipe.

Sweet & Salty Chocolate Bar with Fruit & Nuts
Free from grain, gluten, eggs, dairy, and refined sugar.
Ingredients
- 1 bar of my Homemade Honey-Sweetened Chocolate Chunks, or any dairy, soy, and refined-sugar free chocolate bar
- 1 tablespoon seeds (black or white chia seeds, pepitas)*
- 5-6 tablespoons dried fruit (goji berries, craisins, dried cherries, raisins, coconut flakes)
- 3-4 tablespoons nuts (peanuts, pistachios, walnuts, almonds)*
Instructions
Prepare the chocolate as instructed in this recipe (honey-sweetened chocolate). Pour into a silicone loaf pan, or regular loaf pan lined with foil.
Sprinkle with nuts, seeds, and fruit.
Freeze for about 1/2 hour. Cut into pieces and enjoy.
Store leftovers in the freezer or fridge. (Fridge storage will produce a softer chocolate bar.)
Note
*For optimal digestion, seeds and nuts should be soaked for 24 hours in filtered water and then dehydrated. This doesn’t really work with chia seeds (obviously), but with everything else it does. 🙂
