What better way to celebrate fall than with a delicious and easy to make paleo herbal pumpkin mocha? It’s nourishing and full of comforting fall-inspired flavors.
Pumpkin everything season.
No matter what the weather feels like down here in the South, I’m always excited when fall hits. Not only does it mean that it will hopefully not be 90 degrees soon, it also means it’s time for some of my favorite fall-inspired flavors. Apples, sweet potatoes, pumpkins…
Yep, it’s that time of year when pumpkin everything makes it’s appearance once again. Though in my mind it never really went away. ‘Cause I’m always in the mood for something pumpkin!
Pumpkin nutrition.
If you thought those people who love pumpkin-everything are annoying, don’t knock them too hard. They’re actually nourishing their bodies with their favorite flavor! Well, granted their pumpkin-everything treats are made with other nourishing ingredients. I’m not saying go to Starbucks and order a pumpkin spice latte thinking you’re doing your body a favor…
Rather, pumpkin-love isn’t a bad thing, since pumpkins are actually very healthy! They’re rich in antioxidants, flavonoids (like cryptoxanthin, lutein & zeaxanthin), vitamins, and minerals! Pumpkins are packed with vitamins C, E, and B6, as well as riboflavin, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, thiamin, niacin, folate, iron, carotene (which the body makes into vitamin A).
Plus, they’re pretty dang delicious when mixed with cinnamon, and a little honey… two of the things that help make this herbal pumpkin mocha so delicious!
Paleo herbal pumpkin mocha.
If you’ve ever struggled with caffeine or coffee, this herbal pumpkin mocha is the perfect way to enjoy the health benefits of herbal coffee while getting in all the nutritious benefits of pumpkin. Add in a little fair-trade, organic cocoa, and it’s a definite win.
Never used herbal coffee substitutes before? I like to use the ‘happy liver herbal coffee’ from my friend Jessica‘s ebook, DIY Herbal Coffee Substitutes. The herbal coffee recipes in the book are all gluten and grain-free and only made with nourishing herbs.Â
Of course, if you like real coffee, not herbal, you’re welcome to use that in this drink. It will still be equally delicious. Either way, I’m sure you’ll enjoy this pumpkin mocha.
More pumpkin deliciousness…

Herbal Pumpkin Mocha
Free from grain, gluten, eggs, dairy, and refined sugar.
Ingredients
- 2 cups herbal coffee* or regular organic coffee
- 1 cup dairy-free milk (coconut or almond milk work!)
- 1/2 cup organic pumpkin puree
- 2 tablespoons MCT oil (or melted coconut oil)
- 3 tablespoons cocoa powder (I love this fair-trade organic one!)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4-6 tablespoons honey
Instructions
For a warm mocha, place everything in a small pot, whisk to combine and heat through. Pour into a blender and pulse quickly to froth, if you want.
For a chilled mocha, place everything in the blender and puree. Pour over ice.
Note
While I haven’t tried it, if you’re not into making your own herbal coffee sub (or you don’t already have one you love) you can give this gluten-free chicory root herbal coffee a try. 🙂

This looks amazing. I am not a big coffee fan either. Its more like sugar with a little coffee. And if I splurge, tons of whipped cream. So there you go.
