Looking for a healthy alternative to those fast-food treats? Look no further than this paleo, real-food Chocolate Peppermint Frosty with hidden greens!
Learning to love.
I’m going to be honest here. Avocados and I have not always gotten along. And that really means that I hated their guts growing up. Just being honest. My cousin had an avocado tree in her backyard, and there were always rats all over it. While it was a huge turn off back then, I look back on it now with sadness. All those beautiful wasted avocados! Well, at least the rats were happy.
Anyway, this “frosty” was my first attempt avocado anything. I know avocado stuff has been floating around internet-dom forever now, but I’ve never tried any of it. Not only because of how much I hated avocados, but also because they’re stinkin’ expensive. What I wouldn’t give for my own personal avocado tree right about now!
The perfect first.
My 10-month old does not share my distaste of avocados, which is a good thing, in my opinion. Avocados are full of fiber, potassium (more than twice what a banana has!), vitamin E and B-vitamins, folic acid, and of course healthy fats. Since turning to a more traditional diet for my non-gluten-intolerant family, I’ve been trying to stay away from feeding my babies cereal, and opt for more gentle forms of first foods. One of them being avocados.
Chocolate Peppermint Frosty
After feeding my baby breakfast one morning I just happened to have a half of avocado leftover and I thought, “Eh, why not?” So I threw it in my smoothie. Now I’m addicted. 🙂 Ever since then I’ve been putting them in everything: smoothies, cakes, frostings, you name it!
Avocado + chocolate anything = win.

HI Raia,
Avocados are a few you have to require a taste for – I think. They are expensive so I make I don’t buy too many at a time so they don’t go to waste, but they do make a lot of good recipes. This recipes sounds wonderful with the chocolate and peppermint – perfect for the holidays season. Thanks for sharing on Real Food Fridays. Pinned & tweeted!
Thank you, Marla! It’s a wonderful way to use up avocados that are a little on the mushy side, too. 😉
