A Gluten-Free Passover

Passover is upon us! For those of you who aren’t familiar with this special day, Passover is celebrated as a remembrance of God delivering the Israelites from their slavery in ancient Egypt.

passoverAfter over 400 years of living as foreign slaves in the land, God showed the Pharaoh 10 plagues (or wonders or signs) to prove that He is God and Pharaoh was not. The last and most devastating sign was the death of every firstborn son living in a house where the doorway was not covered by the blood of a lamb (a picture of the Messiah)

As the Israelites prepared to leave Egypt after this last sign, God instructed them to eat the lamb whose blood they just spread over their doors with bitter herbs and unleavened bread, since they don’t have time to wait for the bread to rise. After Pharaoh released the Hebrews, God told them to have a feast at the beginning of every year to remember this time: a Passover meal of roasted meat, bitter herbs, and unleavened bread

Passover-171

There’s definitely more to the story than that, but you get the general idea. If you’re interested in knowing more, you can read it in the Bible in Exodus chapters 5-13.

Even though my family and I are not Jewish, we have been celebrating Passover for three years now. The symbolism it holds is beautiful and rich for believers in Jesus as the Messiah, who sacrificially gave himself as our Passover lamb!

For those of you who celebrate gluten-free, some of my blogger friends and I have compiled a list of some delicious dishes for your feast. And even if you’re not celebrating Passover (or you’re doing Easter or just want a nice Sunday dinner) there’s definitely still something delicious for you here!
